I know, I’m the last damn person you’d expect to make one of these posts, considering how much I hate Tumblr’s general clamoring for “social justice” and petitions/donations/what have you. But I think this one deserves a little special attention.

Dilma, the current president of Brazil, has just given his approval to start a massive hyrdoelectric dam project in the Amazon. This dam would flood 400,000 hectares of rainforest near the river’s shore, forcing over 40,000 indigenous people off of their homeland and threatening the lives of countless plant and animal species that live in this riverbank habitat.

Our way of life has already resulted in the destruction of a HUGE portion of this rainforest in just trees alone. The Amazon rainforest is one of, if not THE most diverse and species-rich habitat on land, rivaling the ecological diversity we see in coral reefs. The destructive impact this man-made structure would have on this precious ecosystem is going to be fucking DEVASTATING, not to mention the horrible losses that the native peoples of the area would face. We, all over the world, need to let the government of Brazil hear that this gross manipulation of the land by human hands is BY NO MEANS ACCEPTABLE.

Please take just a minute and sign this petition. It took me about 20 seconds. Mankind has no fucking right to take the planet it lives on for granted in such an abhorrent way, and president Dilma needs to hear as many voices as we can gather to fucking STOP THIS.

Do it for the indigenous people if that’s your thing, do it for the trees, the animals, whatever. Just please, sign this, make your voice heard.

Wait wait…what. No…Just no! Please all sign this!

Signed. I have just a handful of followers but every signature counts. You don’t have to enter your postal code or phone number.

Good cause. Also added to Stumbleupon.
