February 2011
i'm just really tired.
emilyswash: if you are cis: try, for one day, to take notice every single time someone uses a gendered pronoun or word to describe you. you will be amazed how many times it happens. i’m not asking you to imagine how it would feel it it were wrong, just to see how impossible it is to avoid.

Binder →
I just got my first binder in the mail from the lovely people over at the MORF binder donation scheme! It fits really well, though it’s not quite as tight over the chest as I used to do the ace bandages, so I look a lot more butch.. I should try to work up some muscle in my upper arms to make it look more realistic. Or possibly tighten it just a little bit.. I’m really excited either...

Someone called me “sir” at the bar last night, and suddenly the prospect of washing dishes all night seemed so much more manageable.

becomingjacob: To those friendly, genuine, beautiful people who talk to me in a store or just a simple smile on the streets.. you have no idea how wonderful you make my days. Ah, this made me smile. I’m glad smiling at random people in the street is working, despite often just getting very confused looks back.

US military needs to train their troops... →
Seriously, what does it say about the military when they need time from February till the summer to train their troops and commanders to be able to handle openly gay people? “Among other elements, commanders will be trained to watch for signs of unease among the troops, and troops will be instructed on the new policy.” Should the commanders not be doing that already anyway? And how...

Binary-Gender Privilege →
A lot of people don’t think about that there actually is privilege in having a gender in the binary, even if you aren’t cis or “gender normative” or whatever else. Feel free to suggest your own. You can reasonably expect that… ..words to describe your gender not only exist in every natural language (and constructed languages not specifically made for a non-binary gendered race), but are...

Mom Bullied By Pastor After Allowing Son To Dress... →
pansexualpride: Remember “Cop’s Wife”? In October, her son, Boo, dressed as Daphne from Scooby-Doo for Halloween, disgusting some of the mothers at his church preschool. Cop’s Wife wrote about that experience. Since then, she’s been accused of breaking God’s Commandments. Oh, not all of them, mind you. Just the 8th Commandment: bearing false witness. She writes: The first time Pastor...

Why I feel a need to shout out about my identity
genderqueer: Submitted by yrthebside: I spent so long trying to ram myself into one gender or the other. I felt wrong as a girl, and ‘fake’ as a boy. I grew my hair long and caked myself in makeup and hoped that one day I’d wake up and feel like myself. I cut off all my hair, made up unisex names for myself and hid under jumpers and jeans and hoped that maybe I’d feel better if people saw...

– One in three women wouldn’t go out without make-up on | Women’s Views on News This makes me want to cry. (via greaterthanlapsed) The sad thing is, how many of their fears would probably be confirmed if they did stop wearing make-up.  (via robot-heart-politics) This is terrible. (via...
